Reisetomate Tomato
Latin Name:
Solanum lycopersicum ReisetomateDistorted and weird, this ugly-but-beautiful heirloom looks like lots of red tomatoes fused together. Bright red tomatoes taste-well, rather sour, strong and acidic.
This type of tomato traces its roots to Central America where the native people would carry traveler tomatoes on trips, to eat as they walked. Many sources say that the Reisetomate tomato is a German heirloom, but that it originally came from Guatemala, or traces back to ancient Peruvian cultivation.
