NuMex Pumpkin Spice Jalapeño Pepper

This bright pumpkin-orange colored variety was bred using natural backcrossing techniques, resulting in a lightly spicy and super eye-catching fruit. Ornamental and extremely prolific, well adapted to the hot New Mexico climate. This pepper stands out for ornamental quality and supreme fruity flavor.
The NuMex Pumpkin Spice jalapeño is the same size as the traditional early jalapeño, but it ripens to a beautiful orange color. The “NuMex Pumpkin Spice” jalapeño was developed specifically for its color. The variety was recently released by New Mexico State University, along with “NuMex Lemon Spice” and “NuMex Orange Spice.” In a 2015 paper describing its breeding process, pepper experts Paul Bosland and Danise Coon write that the new vibrant peppers were bred to help growers boost sales On the Scoville scale, the NuMex Pumpkin Spice Jalapeño comes in at 80,000 Scoville Heat Units—10 times hotter than the usual jalapeño.
